Cabo Verde & Ilha do Maio

I was looking for an “Espaço Tranquilidade” for my UN R&R holiday (April 2014) where I could unwind for a week that seemed like a year (thanks to Island time), and I found the exact spot on a magical desert island, Ilha do Maio.

Espaco Tranquilidade

The island is part of 10 (some volcanic) forming the nation of Cabo Verde, a former Portugese colony and slave trade route in the middle of the Atlantic.

I spent my time in a tower overlooking a black sandy beach named Calheta; it’s unique colour possibly due to the nearby volcano. It stays in my memory as one of the best solo trips I have made, and fulfilled it’s purpose of rest and recuperation.
