Dakar holds a special place in my heart. In 2014, I spent a brief moment in the Senegalese capital en route to Cabo Verde, as part of a UN-inspired “R&R holiday.”
The UN allows for Rest & Recuperation holidays for its personnel serving in certain missions around the world. My chosen destination involved a pit-stop to Dakar, where I ended up staying longer than expected due to a sprained ankle requiring physiotherapy in this modern and luxurious West African capital.
It was in Dakar with a sprained ankle, that I conceived the branding and identity work for the Human Rights Division at the UN peacekeeping operation in Mali. You’ll notice the pastel colours are a direct influence from the surroundings of the Madrague Hotel in the beachtown and fishing village areas of Ngor.
