Almost 12 years ago, I designed a typeface named Bollywood Masala. Drawing upon ethnic roots somewhere in Tamil Nadu, I indulged in discipline and research while creating a typeface as part of a first-year university design project.
Getting the idea wasn’t instant. It took many failed attempts, stylistic errors, binned sketches and the camaraderie of Scandinavians living in Sydney to get this right.
Once the draft for a single tamil-inspired roman character came to life, (beginning with ‘a’), the others just drew themselves.
